A Simple Nonparametric Estimator for the Distribution of Random Coefficients
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a simple nonparametric mixtures estimator for recovering the joint distribution of parameter heterogeneity in economic models, such as the random coefficients logit. The estimator is based on linear regression subject to linear inequality constraints, and is robust, easy to program, and computationally attractive compared to alternative estimators for random coefficient models. For complex structural models, one does not need to nest a solution to the economic model during optimization. We prove consistency and provide the rate of convergence under deterministic and stochastic choices for the sieve approximating space that forms the basis of our estimator. We present a Monte Carlo study and an empirical application to dynamic programming discrete choice with a serially-correlated unobserved state variable. ∗Bajari thanks the National Science Foundation, grant SES-0720463, for generous research support. Nonparametric Estimation of Spatial Risk for a Mean Nonstationary Random Field}
The common methods for spatial risk estimation are investigated for a stationary random field. Because of simplifying, lets distribution is known, and parametric variogram for the random field are considered. In this paper, we study a nonparametric spatial method for spatial risk. In this method, we model the random field trend by a local linear estimator, and through bias-corrected residuals, ...

We explore a nonparametric mixtures estimator for recovering the joint distribution of random coefficients in structural models. The estimator is based on linear regression subject to linear inequality constraints and is computationally attractive compared to alternative, nonparametric estimators. We provide conditions under which the estimated distribution function converges to the true distri...

We propose an estimator for discrete choice models, such as the logit, with a nonparametric distribution of random coefficients. The estimator, based on linear regression subject to linear inequality constraints, is robust, simple to program, and quick to compute compared to alternative estimators for mixture models. We discuss three methods for proving identification of the distribution of het...

We propose a wavelet based stochastic regression function estimator for the estimation of the regression function for a sequence of pairwise negative quadrant dependent random variables with a common one-dimensional probability density function. Some asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator are investigated. It is found that the estimators have similar properties to their counterparts st...
متن کاملNONPARAMETRIC ESTIMATION IN RANDOM COEFFICIENTS BINARY CHOICE MODELS By
This paper considers random coefficients binary choice models. The main goal is to estimate the density of the random coefficients nonparametrically. This is an ill-posed inverse problem characterized by an integral transform. A new density estimator for the random coefficients is developed, utilizing Fourier-Laplace series on spheres. This approach offers a clear insight on the identification ...
